winter walls darken the static speaks to the flesh
brevity of the river fog’s beauty in a single breath
dawn the full moon bares her soul but we gaze at the earth
noon the foraging squirrel is it buddha you seek?
arms raised to the sky we pretend to be mango trees
up in the winter trees shadows shift with predatory design
we return the frost and city to the night
dressed in white how do you tell the living from ghosts
disturbed by neon lights songbirds singing late into the night
