our strange world a shadow of another

tired eyes deny the light

rusty gangway the drop into the deep blue

pass the skin colour test at the border maybe

stray dog chasing its tail while leaders fan flames

clarinet reaches high note the winter eagles dives

kisses the shoreline cold waves at dawn

winter war a reminder of how far we’ve sunk

pivot on toes almost crashing into shadow

war engines interrupt the winter birdsong
