sleep takes over and we forget the way of flesh

before you sleep pray tell me the worth of bones
the autumn fly brings news a fresh wave of rain
in the absence of dreams the rain flees
sway raised hands to the last ember in the sky
left to burn out in a quiet tree cavity lit cigarette
still waters complement the concrete chaos
a circus of shadows between pine trees
dusk a burst of gold rain before the looming dark
waking with the storm and grey in our bones
