firebirds glide like rumour through smoke bringing omens from the old gods to the eyes of men
fishermen leave offerings to the tide: a glass full of whales
lightning hums raw in the gullet of the ancient beast
pilgrims kneel and drink in the memory of the dragon’s destruction
through fangs through wounds a lullaby of what you lost
the pilgrim walks weightless as the rain beats down upon flesh like applause
there in the deep a creature whose very breath fogs the futures of predator and prey
