trail of black feathers that lead the feet across grey tiles
robes unsheathed to reveal night’s skin and scales
pagans of the frail flesh performing soft rites
such is humanity’s delight in denying our mortality
the river grey reminds us that we are still flesh and blood
summer at every turn we touch and feel the lies of reality
the voices drone on and on but the secrets stay
like a cape i put on and float away the dark before dawn
dusk every other soul swept under the rug except for us
